And neither should any author’s, especially when it comes to things that they “reveal” after the fact. I’m not saying we should completely disregard what she says, but sometimes I think even JKR herself would rather that we come up with our own theories about what makes the most sense based on what’s in the books rather than just argue over what she said in this or that interview.

Also, there comes a point when you have to admit -okay, Jo didn’t think this particular aspect out very well, or this idea isn’t consistent throughout the series.

Guess what - she’s not perfect. And it’s not the end of the world.

I completely agree. Emma is a beautiful person (inside and out) but she just isn’t a good actress. Kristen Stewart’s decision to play Bella Swan… I still don’t understand why, but besides the whole Twilight shit (which she and rpattz hate), she has done great in other movies.

I disagree completely. Emma is an amazing actress. The perfect Hermione. Also, in Ballet Shoes, she shows that she’s great. Kristen..eh. I’ve never liked her as an actress or period. Opinions are opinions for a reason though..

I beg to disagree, Emma’s acting in Ballet Shoes was awful. Don’t get me wrong, I do like her but to say that she is an amazing actress is a bit far-fetched right now. She has improved— GREATLY improved— though during Deathly Hallows but I have yet to see My Week with Marilyn and Perks of Being a Wallflower before passing more judgement.

Same goes for Kristen. I’ve only seen her in Twilight, Adventureland, and Runaways (I’ve seen Panic Room but I didn’t know it was her back then) and her acting in every movie has been meh.

Anyway, point is, both aren’t great actors in my book. And most of the time Emma Watson hardcore fans go ape shit whenever someone points this out (Exhibit A: this post)* which annoys the hell out of me.

Some of the people who says “Twilight sucks!” doesn’t even know how to write a short story. You guys must know how hard it is for both of the authors to create a novel series.

I have read both of the books.

And I think, they are both incredible.

I disagree in everything you’ve just said but I’ll focus on one aspect because this kind of reasoning has always irked me: “Some of the people who says “Twilight sucks!” doesn’t even know how to write a short story.”

Agreed that not everyone can write well or come up with an original plot like authors do but isn’t that the whole point of being an author? To create good, quality books for us readers? On the other hand, it is our— their consumer and audience— right to criticize their works. So NO. Just because majority of readers do not know how to write does not mean we don’t have the right to complain if the book we just picked up and bought was a crappy one.

Season finale was kind of meh. I mean from all the build up from last week’s episode, you’d expect something more grand for the last episode but alas, they made this episode the denouement of the season… and just that.

A few things,

As much as I understand the writers take on the Excalibur scene and that Merlin making up the whole story and helping out Arthur pull out the sword by magic actually makes more sense, I still feel like I’ve been cheated my whole life regarding this particular part of the Arthurian legend. Boo!

Morgana really needs to get laid

Aithusa should lay off the whisky (WTF were you thinking breathing onto Morgana and saving her?)

I wanted more screentime for Tristan & Isolde, they were supposed to have the greatest romance story during that time after all

Merlin speaking in Draconian never fails to turn me on

Merlin was so badass during the scene with Agravaine (“I was born with it.” line made me all giddy!)

and Merlin could really use some magic reveal soon/ next season. He looks so tired with all the hiding and deception from Arthur. :(

BUUUUUTTT I loved the coronation scene! Gwen looked lovely. So excited to see more character development from her next season as she steps into the role of Queen of Camelot!

Ugh why does next season have to take a year??? I really love this show despite all its flaws and sometimes crappy scriptwriting. Countdown to next season begins!

But aren’t Dementors lured to people because they feed on happiness? Then they suck the soul out of them once there’s no happiness left to sustain them. That’s why Sirius was able to escape Azkaban in the first place, because the Dementors couldn’t sense him completely. So they probably could suck the soul out of the Horcrux but would they even be able to sense it in the first place?

To be fair, I don’t think it’s house hate at all, it’s the Slytherins who get that. I think it’s more of the fact that most people tend to neglect or ignore Hufflepuffs and just assume that they’re the wallflowers of Hogwarts and sometimes that’s waaay worse than knowing people flat out hate you. So yeah, I think that’s the main reason why you keep seeing “I’m a proud Hufflepuff!” posts. It’s to actually make others understand that they too play an important part in the book, and that they have characteristics that are worthy of a praise or two. :)

I like Bonnie, I like Emma. The problem I have with this confession is that OP’s implying that a guy like Harry’s stature cannot possibly fall in love with someone who’s not “pretty enough” (although I beg to disagree, Bonnie is gorgeous!). Harry fell in love with Ginny because she was feisty, smart, brave, and could fight and stand up on her own despite knowing that she could have just always relied on her 6 brothers to protect her. Harry fell in love with Ginny because of her personality, not the way she looked.

Also, sometimes I don’t get this fandom. You have people complaining that Bonnie and Clemency isn’t pretty enough to be their characters then you have those who complain that Emma’s too pretty to play Hermione. I mean really guys?

Neville-Luna scene in the movies was never canon though. They just placed that in coz they knew there was a big fanbase who ship them together. :)

Pottermore wasn’t as great as I had hoped it would be, and that makes me sad because now I’m afraid Harry Potter won’t reach the younger, more technology centered generation.

That’s the thing though, as much as I love technology I believe that there are still things that are best introduced the “old way” which in the series’ case is, through books. Pottermore was simply an add-on to the franchise and not a come-on. What worries me more is that the young ones would cease picking up books and hence not get into reading because they just couldn’t appreciate the beauty of flipping one real page to another instead of just dragging your fingers from left to right.

They hate him because the majority didn’t READ THE BOOKS and decided to just watch the movie and don’t comprehend it and just see the first layer which is harry hating him (and/or) they can’t understand that J.K. writes so masterfully that she wrote mysteries within mysteries to mind fuck us when creating the glorious character that is Severus Snape. Actually, reading the series is what made me not like (hate is such a strong word) Snape. When I was a kid, all I could see was him being a meany but as I grew up and reread the series, the more I realized the severity of how he mistreated non Slytherin students. It’s been said over and over again to the point that it gets irritating and actually loses its meaning but the truth of the matter is he really was a bully. Whether that was because of his hatred towards James and the rest of the Marauders, or his unrequited love towards Lily, or how he was mistreated by his father during his childhood is irrelevant. You get to know where he is coming from, yes, but it doesn’t mean you have to condone his actions. Even if JKR’s intention was to mindfuck all her readers, it still doesn’t change the fact that Snape was irrationally mean to others… to kids for that matter.

I get why so many people love/adore Snape though. He was brave, never stopped loving Lily, he sacrificed himself… basically a hero in a very non-traditional sense. I personally appreciate what he did for Harry but that still isn’t enough for me to even like him, let alone love.

That’s one of the problems I have whenever I come across this kind of argument— our personalities and beliefs differ from one another; we may all be put in one situation but the way we react would differ from one another. It’s silly to expect everyone to react exactly the same way Harry did, forgive and forget isn’t always an option for some people.

I don’t like that the American version of the books are different than the British versions. To me, it’s unauthentic.

The problem I have with people complaining about this is that they assume that everyone can understand the British version right away. Sure, 15 year olds might know how to Google translations of the word Philosopher and jumper and realize that it’s totally different from how they understand it but maybe not so much for the 8 year olds. I can only speak for myself but if I read a book at that age and couldn’t understand even the slightest details about the story, I may have not enjoyed it as much as I did nor probably wouldn’t have bothered picking up Chamber of Secrets.

I’m 23 now— and a whole lot familiar with the British language— and I’ve been wanting to read the UK version for curiosity’s sake. I bet it’d be wonderful and even be like a totally “new” way of reading the series but I still can’t disregard the fact that I owe the American version my childhood for it is the version that introduced me to this magical world.

There will always be some things that will be lost in translation but what people should understand is that the reason behind changing words or phrases or even names (for some languages) is not because they do not respect the way JK Rowling originally wrote Harry Potter but how they wanted to reach out to other countries and nationalities as well the best way they possibly can.

To be completely honest, I do agree with this to some degree. I think Gryffindor deserved that House Cup because its members all learned very important lessons their first year and they did save the school, after all, but… this doesn’t sit right with me. I always cheer when they win because I do want them to, but it’s one of those rare moments in the books where Jo seems to show that doing good needs to be rewarded in some way. I love how the scene is written, I just always wish that they hadn’t told Slytherin (or us) they’d won in the first place. Then nothing about this would bother me in the slightest. Regardless, the way she wrote everything had a reason, and I’m 110% accepting of that.

But she never did write that the Slytherins have already won, she just described to us how the Great Hall was decorated during the time of the year-end feast. I imagined that it just so happens that other professors already “set-up” the place before Dumbledore could’ve mentioned it to them that he’d be awarding points to the Trio and Neville. Or a better idea would be that by ~~magic~~, at exactly (insert time before the feast), the Great Hall will bear the colors of the house who has the most number of points in their hourglass. Besides, he needed to explain first to the whole school and us readers why Gryffindor wins. Giving the three 50 points while only giving Neville 10 was the one that showed more bias, in my opinion.

Which brings me to my second point. As much as I agree that not all good deeds should be rewarded in such a grand scale, I believe this is one of the many instances that you actually can. As many (and even you) already pointed out, they stopped Voldemort and saved the school. That’s not something you come across everyday. It’s not like Harry, Ron and Hermione just accidentally found a Galleon and decided to give it back to Dumbles coz, you know, someone might own it. But I do believe in giving fair/equal rewards to everyone involved which to me, Neville was a part of. So if it were me, I would’ve given 50 points as well to Neville or would’ve given the three only 10 points each as well or ya know, any random number for as long as they all receive the same amount of points.. :)

And the only post I see here, on this particular thread/post, from your boyfriend is that it’s a unique confession and to me it came across like you still can’t believe that someone can actually think of something pretty unique besides yourself. I didn’t see me assuming you were tumblr famous to be the issue because as you and your boyfriend said, you weren’t and I do take your word for it. My response after your apology was a simple statement— which was never directed at you but the whole of tumblrdom— that there’s so much hate going on on tumblr that it just irks me to no end when people here go ape shit on something that might be an innocent mistake in the first place (along with opinions/ point of views that aren’t the same as theirs). Also, and more importantly, I accepted your apology.

So just to reiterrate:

1. I haven’t seen your confession before doing this. I wouldn’t have done it if I saw it already. I would’ve reblogged it. I believe in giving credit where credit is due so I reblog when I see a good post. I even liked this post on my personal tumblr when I read it because it was brilliant and so spot on.

2. I like Percy, okay? I don’t like that he gets so much hate to the point that people would say he was the one who should’ve died or that he is irrelevant to the Weasley family because he’s not. Snape, on the other hand, I’ve always never liked him. I appreciated everything he did for Harry but what I can’t just accept how much of a bully he was to innocent people, most especially students (I’ve always partly blamed him for Neville’s lack of self-confidence during his first 6 years at Hogwarts). Basically, at the end of the day, he’s not someone I’d go fangirly over let alone want to be with his company. I feel like out of all the characters in HP, he probably has the most number of admirers/”fans”/whatever so naturally I would compare him to Percy. I’d say the same about James-Snape/ Ron-Snape/ Draco-Snape but Ron and Draco have a fair enough fanbase while I just don’t care about James (read: I don’t hate him, in case I get shit for this statement, just not love) as much as I do about Percy.

3. I don’t always check tags especially Percy’s because like I said, he gets so much hate. So again, I didn’t see your post.

4. Look, I don’t go bitching or meet anyone with sarcasm unless they do it to me first and yours felt like one. So of course I’ll answer back with sarcasm. If you weren’t being sarcastic then I genuinely apologize.
